Beauty, Brains and a Giving Heart

Local teen and Salvation Army volunteer takes top honors in competition pageant.

Autumn Arnder, a senior at East Surry High School, recently took first place honors in the job interview portion of Future Business Leaders Association (FBLA) Regional Competition.
She was one of three East Surry students who did well at the competition. Nicholas Wass finished second in the future business leader competition which requires participants to submit a letter of application and resume, an objective test and an interview. Elizabeth Shelton received recognition for placing third in parliamentary procedure testing.

For Autumn, who is involved in a number of charitable causes in the community, it was one of several major recognitions during the past year. In August, she was crowned Miss Virginia State Peach Festival Title at the eighth annual festival pageant held in Stuart, Virginia.

The pageant was administered by the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the 25th annual Virginia State Peach Festival, held in Patrick County, Virginia.

Autumn has organized food and toy drives in the area with donations going to the Salvation Army for the past four years. She is also a Junior Volunteer at Northern Surry Hospital of Surry County.

Autumn is the daughter of Ron and Angela Arnder of Mount Airy and the granddaughter of Billy and Phyllis Allen of Cana, Virginia., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Millard F. Arnder.
