Salvation Army Focuses on Feeding and Shelter as Sandy Response Continues

Service Ongoing in Hardest Hit Areas of New York, New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia and Elsewhere.

As millions struggle without access to power and other basic services up and down the East Coast, The Salvation Army entered its fifth day of response for Hurricane Sandy. Feeding and sheltering activities are continuing in the most heavily impacted areas including New York and New Jersey where coastal devastation and flooding remain major issues. Salvation Army Seeking Donations for Sandy Victims

The Salvation Army is seeking donations to help reliefs efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Donations are being collected by the national Salvation Army and donors are encouraged to give online at www.SalvationArmyUSA.org. The National Salvation Army is working with emergency management teams in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland by serving meals and snacks, along with providing shelter at various locations. Those interested in volunteering can register at www.disaster.salvationarmyusa.org, though disaster service training is a prerequisite for volunteering in a disaster zone and not all registered volunteers will be called on to serve. Salvation Army Ramps Up Deployment Efforts in Sandy’s Wake

As Hurricane Sandy barreled up the East Coast, leaving mass destruction and nearly 8 million without power in its wake, The Salvation Army prepared for a long-term disaster response and recovery operation. Feeding has already begun at shelters in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions and mobile canteen units will deploy to the areas of greatest need as damage is assessed in the coming days.
