Couple Recycles Gold Coins to Benefit Salvation Army

Phil and Sandy Denotto know how an investment can grow.

And they are investing in the Springfield, IL community by donating two American Eagle gold coins to The Salvation Army’s 2012 Tree of Lights campaign.

“We’re thrilled and touched by this wonderful donation,” said Major Paul Logan, corps officer. “Many people will receive the help they need because of their caring donation.”

The coins — a one-ounce coin and a one-quarter-ounce coin — were purchased in 2001 at a Salvation Army coin auction for a total of $540. The Denottos inherited the coins, now worth a little over $2,100, from Sandy’s mother, and they recently decided to put them to good use.

The coins will be sold and the proceeds put in the Tree of Lights campaign, Logan said. [...]
